Here's a brief overview of my life so far:
- 1973
-
Born the 9th of March, 1973 in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, the second child of Peter and Renda McCaughan (the first being David).
- 1973-1983
-
Moved five months later to San Rafael, California. Spent the next 10 years there. Was "freezing" when in got down to 50°F.
- 1983-1991
-
Moved to Wilton, Connecticut in December of 198312/1983. Saw snow for the first time. Was "freezing" when in got down to 20°F. My family got itsGot our first computerPC, a Zenith® Z-100 (I think… this was a while ago). Started programmingcoding in GW-BASIC.
- 1991
-
Graduated in 1991 from Wilton High School.
- 1991
-
Enrolled in the College of Engineering of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
- 1991
-
One semester later, left engineering for the Department of Theater (phew).
- 1993
-
Two years later, moved back in with the parents, who had since moved to Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Was "freezing" when in got down to -20°F.
- 1994
-
While completing my Bachelor of Arts in Theater at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, started work at Regis Corporation.
- 1994-2005
-
From 1994 to 2005, I worked in a variety of positions, culminating in Web Developer for the intranet. I built a couple of sites accessible outside their network, but they have since been redesigned.
- 2005-2007
-
In 2005, I left Regis and started at Rust Consulting, Inc.. I was a full-time employee, although my title was Technical Consultant. Don't ask me. I built a number of web sites, although none I'll link to, as they were for class action lawsuits and I really don't want to go there.
- 2007-2017
-
August 20, 2007 brought my move to the true consulting world when I joined Magenic Technologies. I'm still a full-time employee, but I go out to clients, bill and all that good stuff. I consider it the best of both worlds.
- 2017-2021
-
On August 1, 2017 I transferred to the New York office of Magenic, continuing my tradition of making changes in my life every 10 years or so. I'm now living in Stamford, Connecticut, a mere 15 miles from where I once lived. Am "freezing" when in gets down to 20°F.
- 2021-2022
-
On May 1, 2021 Magenic was acquired by Cognizant Softvision. In late 2022, Cognizant began the process of consolidating the Softvision brand into its base Cognizant brand. Part of this consolidation was a removal of some of the aspects that made acquisition by Softvision tolerable by Magenic employees, thereby triggering me (and many others) to tender my resignation.
Also, moved in with my dad, in New Milford, CT. It's a bit further into the boonies, but closer to my brother and his family, so I get some good home-cooked meals sometimes.
- 2023-2024
-
A short while after leaving Cognizant, I applied for, received, and accepted an offer of contract work for Polaris, Inc., a manufacturer of motorized vehicles. Despite being headquartered in Medina, MN, I'll be staying in Connecticut, working remotely (for IRIS Consulting, at least until they decide they want me full-time because I'm so awesome 😁).
- 2004-now
-
Alas, Polaris, Inc. didn't see the light, so to speak, and a few months short of the two year mark, decided to let me go. Currently, in the market for a new remote position!
